Identify the best candidates for CIPS membership

The key to successful recruitment is asking the right people to join. Your olleagues, young professionals and new employees in your organisation are all great prospects and will appreciate that you have gone out of your way to help them with their careers. Procurement and supply chain is key to a number of areas within your organisation – so consider sharing the benefits of CIPS with colleagues in these areas.

When discussing membership with a prospect, listen for clues as to what they expect from a professional body.

Stress those member benefits that meet their specific needs. For instance, an entry-level studying member may be more interested in our qualifications ladder or the CIPS networking opportunities. Whilst a senior executive is likely to be more interested in how CIPS resources can help improve procurement and supply chain across the organisation.

Invite a prospective colleague to attend a CIPS free networking event to experience first-hand the professional benefits of CIPS membership. This is a great chance for them to experience both the educational and networking activities of their local branch. This can be a particularly productive way to convey potential studying, affiliate and Management Entry Route members the value of this local professional development opportunity.

Keep issues of Supply Management magazine to attract the eyes of potential new members.

Post announcements of CIPS on your office internal communications board. It’ll give you a great chance to explain the value of CIPS.

Welcome your team’s newly hired individuals in other teams and departments - to use the opportunity to discuss CIPS.

Follow up with prospective members to see if they've mailed their applications. Remind your recruits that CIPS is the world’s largest professional purchasing and supply organisation.

Send an email or handwritten note thanking your recruits for considering CIPS
