Can’t accept Supplier gifts & entertainment at Xmas…?
Then come and celebrate the end of the year with CIPSA instead!

Wrap up of VIC Xmas event
The committee organised a successful end of year event on December 5 with more than 80 people attending.  The emphasis was on networking and getting into the spirit of the Christmas season.  A brief survey was also conducted at the door to get some feedback and ideas on what type of events people prefer and what topics are of greatest interest.  VIC Chair, Brendan Comas introduced the committee members and gave a high level overview of what to expect for local CIPSA events in 2008.  There are quarterly events planned with details to be announced once they are finalized soon.  There will be also be a lunchtime lecture series hosted by Telstra in the CBD.  The first of these will be given by Ian Wheatley, Telstra Procurement Executive Director, on the topic of “Procurement – Leading Edge Approach”. See above.

The committee would also like to thank Vertical Talent who sponsored the event as well as Dolce Lounge and Take 5 and Energise for the magnificent shoulder massages.VerticalTalent

New Professionals Launch

More than 70 people turned up to Victoria’s launch of its New Professional agenda on 29th March. Committee member, Andrew Little, presented the committee’s issues/improvements portfolio, which covered the top 10 issues for procurement professionals, brought about from a previous survey. One of the top ten issues that stemmed from this survey was “attraction and retention of talented people into the procurement profession”.

This issue sparked the launch of the New Professionals agenda, which aims to get more students or new professionals choosing procurement as a profession. CIPS Australia, in the near future would like to be offering work experience, mentoring and graduate programmes with host organisations, to contend with other professional associations and the support they provide to graduates. More and more employers are looking for talented students or graduates, and if CIPS is able to be a central body for providing these services, then all the better for the profession. The committee will also be running future focus groups with the intention of discussing certain topics from the top 10 issues. We would appreciate support from all levels of professionals to get these focus groups going. The first one will be announced soon. If you would like to get involved as a host employer for such future programmes, or be involved in a focus group, please email the Victorian committee, vic@cipsa.com.au for more information. This incentive will not get off the ground without the support of members.

The VIC/TAS Committee would like to thank its sponsor Xchanging for making the event possible, and to the venue sponsor Cliftons for providing such a great venue. Thank you to everyone who came along, and of course to our guest speakers Matthew Perfect from Toll, and Iain Clarke from GE Money. We look forward to seeing you at the next regional event in June, to be held in conjunction with the Negotiation open training course.

More details about this event will be released soon, but put it in your diary now.

Another 29 Victorian Members achieve MCIPS

The 29 graduates of the first two Corporate Award programmes got together on November 29 for a graduation luncheon in Melbourne. Attended by the graduates and their workplace mentors (from workplaces such as Australia Post, Coles Myer, Telstra and BHP), a good time was had by all as the graduates and their employers celebrated the achievement of MCIPS.

Sophie Jarvis from Australia Post won the CIPS Award for Excellence, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to this Corporate Award Programme, namely through her commitment to the course, enthusiasm in her learning in the workshops and in achieving a consistent standard of excellence in her work and her assessments and project.

For those members not familiar with Corporate Award, it is an 'applied learning' fast track route to MCIPS (Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply) and runs for up to 15 months. The programme not only provides successful delegates with the globally recognised industry accreditation of MCIPS, it also directly benefits employers through better skilled and qualified employees, and also through a work-based project which delivers significant return to the business on the training investment.
