How to achieve MCIPS

The WA committee’s recent event, How to Achieve MCIPS, received a great turn out at the Curtin Business School on 14th March. Featuring Angelina Pillai, CIPS Australia’s Membership & Education Manager, who updated attendees on the education strategy and pathways to MCIPS. If you would like to offer suggestions for future events in WA, or alternatively if you would like to sponsor or host an event, please email the WA committee chair David Lunn, wa@cipsa.com.au, we look forward to hearing from you.

Alcoa breakfast, a huge success to say the least

On 15th February, the WA committee recently put on a fantastic breakfast seminar featuring Adelina Groppoli, Senior Director of Procurement from Alcoa World Alumina Australia. If you didn’t go along, you were one of the few who didn’t as more than 250 people filled the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom to hear Adelina speak on Customer Relationship Management as a Core Procurement Competency.

She enlightened the audience on Alcoa's new organisational structure and how it supports a closer connection between the Procurement organisation and its internal customers. She also focused on a number of issues and interpersonal skills that are yielding benefits - things like formalised stakeholder management at different organisational levels, planning, building credibility and being visible. Although these items may seem intuitive, Alcoa's experience is that conscious focus and effort is required to make it work. Adelina also pointed out the many similarities between the behaviours she expects Alcoa's suppliers to demonstrate, and those customer-facing characteristics of her own organisation.

The WA Region Committee sincerely thanks Adelina for giving up her valuable time (including answering many questions!) to further CIPS Australia's knowledge sharing and professional networking aspirations.
