An Explanation of CIPS Membership Grades

- Affiliate Member – this grade is designed for individuals who do not wish to become professionally qualified but have a strong interest in purchasing and supply. There are no entry qualifications for affiliate membership.
- Student Member – Student membership is for any member who is studying towards a CIPS qualification or their equivalent. Students have full access to CIPS Australia benefits at a reduced subscription rate during their course of study.
- Certificate Member - Certificate Members have achieved Level 2 (CIPS Introductory Certificate in Purchasing & Supply) and Level 3 (CIPS Certificate in Purchasing & Supply) or any other CIPS accredited certification programmes. (See ladder above)
- Diploma Members - Diploma Members have successfully completed Level 4 (CIPS Foundation Diploma in Purchasing & Supply) or any other CIPS accredited certification programmes. (See ladder above)
- Associate Member – Associate Member is the grade for people who are developing their careers, those who achieved the Level 5 CIPS Advanced Diploma or working towards MCIPS through the Personal Development Plan (PDP). (See ladder above)
- Full Member (MCIPS) – Full Members are recognised internationally for their professional accomplishment. Full membership confers the post nominal's MCIPS and represents an expression of professionalism associated with achieving the highest recognised global standard of excellence in procurement. Members can achieve this through a range of study options, most notably through the CIPS Level 6 in Purchasing and Supply, or members working towards MCIPS through the Personal Development Plan (PDP). Please note that although successful completion of a PDP awards Full Member status, it does not award the CIPS Graduate Diploma. (See ladder above)
- Fellow (FCIPS) – awarded to existing Members (MCIPS) with seniority and significant contribution to the profession.
Member Grading
A simple grading is completed by CIPSA when joining the institute, to define exactly the best grade for a new member [initially an Affiliate member] based upon qualifications and obvious prior learning. This is included and costed in as part of the member joining fee of $100 per member.

New Membership Fees (as of 1 November 2007)
CIPSA fee increase reflects rising costs of operation
CIPSA has recently reviewed its costs and as a result has decided that it can no longer sustain its existing fee schedule. While interest rates and the CPI have continued to climb in the past few years, CIPSA fees have remained static since the formation of the organisation. However, to continue to offer members the service that they expect, CIPSA has had to make a small increase to its fee schedule.
The new fee schedule came into effect from 1 November 2007. The new fees are still well below those charged by other similar organisations. CIPSA has deliberately kept its membership fees low and the revenue raised by fees does not cover the costs of the services offered to members. This is why CIPSA is always exploring new revenue streams that allow it to keep its fees so low. Please refer to the table below for the fee structure. It is broken down into New Membership Fees (including Joining Fee) and Renewal Fees; there are also different fees for Australia and New Zealand/South Pacific. All fees are charged in Australian Dollars and New Zealand/South Pacific fees do not attract GST. Australian prices include GST.
