CIPS TO APPOINT NEW CHAIRS FOR REGIONAL
COMMITTEES IN AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply [CIPS] is set to appoint new Chairs and Vice-Chairs for each of its seven regional branch committees throughout Australia & New Zealand to serve for two years from 1st October 2007.
The seven regions are; NSW, VIC/TAS, QLD, WA, SA/NT, ACT and New Zealand. The current Chairs & Vice-Chairs were mostly appointed following the inaugural selection process for the CIPS regions held during winter 2005. Although, the Interim Chair & Vice-Chair for NZ were appointed only at the beginning of 2007.
The CIPS regions are the principal way that CIPS seeks to build local communities of procurement professionals as a way to facilitate the dissemination and collation of professional knowledge and to enable peer-to-peer networking. The regions also have a limited representational role for the profession.
Expressions of interest in the role of Chair or Vice-Chair for each regional committee are welcome from both members of any grade or status and non-members from today until the closing date Friday 31st August 2007. Non-member applicants will be invited to become members during the selection process whist still candidates for a role.
An ADVERTISEMENT for these roles has been published (and attached here) detailing the prime commitment and benefits of the position. More formal ROLE DESCRIPTIONS are also published (for CHAIR and VICE CHAIR) together with a sample MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING which successful candidates would be required to sign before undertaking the role of Chair or Vice-Chair for a CIPS regional committee. The selection process for both roles in each region is to be completed during September 2007. Selection will be at the discretion of the CIPS Australia executive team based in Melbourne, advised by members of the CIPSA Steering Group.
Decisions will be primarily based upon CV screening and references – although regions with a strong short-list of competing candidates may be invited to a short interview in their local capital city. Expressions of interest are welcome both from incumbents on regional committees, previous committee members and candidates with no previous role on CIPS committees. They are also welcome from practitioners and non-practitioners alike.
Candidates expressing an interest in the roles are asked to submit a comprehensive CV and contact details of three referees who can testify to the candidates credentials and leadership skills. They should also include a covering letter detailing exactly which role[s] they are interested in and or which region and briefly why they make a good candidate. Candidates may express an interest in a role in only ONE region, but in any region of their choice. It is preferred for candidates to live or work regularly in the region they are interested in serving.
Successful candidates for the roles of Chair & Vice-Chair for each region will be asked to recruit the other members of their committee. Anyone wishing to volunteer for a committee role in their region of choice are free to e-mail regions@cipsa.com.au at any time, or to mail a hard copy letter to the CIPSA offices in Melbourne addressed to the Regional Co-ordinator expressing their interest please.
