Review: Capgemini event, 3 July 2008

Many thanks to all who attended the Capgemini event in Melbourne on 3 July. Feedback from the event has been very positive so far.

“Meet your colleagues" and "choose your procurement hot topics" were the two key themes at the 2nd Capgemini event in Australia this year.

Walking into Capgemini's Accelerated Solutions Environment ("ASE"), a huge area separated by moveable-writeable screens, we met, shared a beer, and were given the task of 'summarising a stranger' in procurement terms, and introducing ourselves, in less than a minute.

The music changed, and into the chatrooms we went … a choice of six … oh, no decisions required. Each chatroom a little 'room', surrounded by the screens, scribes awaiting, graphics and pictures abounding.

With six hot topics: transformations; aligning to business strategy; eProcurement, CPO dashboard (see picture), lean and sustainability, all led by a Capgemini expert.

The music changed twice more, so a total of three hot topics, each about 15 minutes.

Then at the end, a summary, laugh and a chat, followed by another drink and some good nattering. Thanks to the Team at Capgemini, and the VIC/TAS Committee for a very successful night. Watch out, Capgemini are looking to repeats soon in other states …..

Knowledge Bites: Lunchtime Lecture Series no. 1

This first of the Victorian Knowledge Bites Lunchtime Lecture series featured Mr Ian Wheatley, Telstra Executive Director Procurement, who presented on "Procurement - a Leading Edge Approach”. Ian has ultimate responsibility for Telstra's 300+ procurement personnel, its procurement practice and execution, and engagement with IBM Australia. In his information session, he discussed Telstra's procurement challenges and solutions in not only building the world-first 3G network, but also Telstra's BPO with IBM Australia. Whilst Telstra is proud of its leading-edge status globally, it does come with the price of being the pioneer. A lot of lessons are learnt when you’re the first, and the knowledge of these lessons are invaluable.
