Another WA Hot Topic Hot Breakfast!

The WA CIPSA committee is pleased to confirm that Sam Walsh, Chief Executive, Rio Tinto Iron Ore, will be guest speaking at a breakfast planned for the 14th of May. Rio Tinto Iron Ore is a leading miner of iron ore and employs over 10000 people across five continents. The global economy is growing ever-more rapidly, and one essential ingredient of that trend is steel, and therefore iron ore. The business has in response to the increasing demand identified a number of key priorities, including;

  • Continue to deliver value through profitable and sustainable growth
  • Thinking and operating globally will be essential to our success
  • Government and community commitment and expectations are increasing  

You are invited to attend this exciting opportunity to hear an address from Sam about some of the challenges faced by a rapidly expanding business and the role of a procurement organisation from a customer’s perspective.

Date: Wednesday 14th May

Time: 7.00am for 7.30am start

Catering: Hot breakfast

CIPSA West Australian Newspaper tour - 9th April (BOOKINGS FULL)

As our first event of 2008 we have arranged a tour of the production facilities of the West Australian newspaper. This will be one of the first guided tours through the facility since new technology and printing presses were installed, streamlining the production and supply chain required to manage the production of the paper. Following the tour morning tea will be served and an address will be provided about the challenges associated with manufacturing and distributing a daily newspaper under tight deadlines to a geographically expansive area. This tour is strictly limited to 40 members. Places will be allocated on first come, first basis, so please be quick to register if you would like to attend. All participants must wear closed in shoes to be permitted access, and no carry in gear (including handbags) will be permitted.

 

When:  Wednesday 9 April, 2008

Where:  50 Hasler Road, Osborne Park.

Participants will need to arrange their own transport to the West Australian. The tour will meet in the foyer of the main administration building.

What time:  Starting time will be at 7.45am concluding at 10.00am

How much will it cost?  The cost of the tour will be $20, and due to the limitation on places, is reserved for CIPSA members only.

Payment should be made via credit card, all cards accepted (please call the CIPS Australia office on 1300 765 142 when paying with credit card. Please note that payment must be made prior to the event to confirm attendance.

BHP Billiton approves $1.2bn WA expansion

BHP Billiton has approved expenditures of just over $US1 billion ($1.22 billion) to expand its lucrative Western Australian iron ore business.

The move is as part of BHP Billiton's plan to triple iron ore volumes from that state to 300 million tonnes over the next seven years.

West Coast Regional Manager – Source, Rio Tinto Procurement
Tony Davey, B-Tech (Ind.Eng.), MBA, is currently employed at Rio Tinto Procurement in his capacity as West Coast Regional Manager – Source. He leads a team of category specialists who manage a diverse portfolio of spend with an objective to deliver value on behalf of the Rio Tinto operating assets. He has seven years experience as a supply chain consultant, having worked for both IBM Business Consulting Services and Deliotte Consulting. As a consultant he participated in the design and delivery of various supply chain improvement projects across many different industries. He has a particular passion for strategic sourcing and delivered the Procurement Centre of Excellence at Lonmin Platinum. 

 

 Tina Groves
WA Vice Chair: Tina Groves

Director maintenance and minor works, WA Department of Housing and Works

Tina’s challenge will be to reform maintenance service delivery in an environment where the building industry is struggling to meet demand for services.
Tina has held several senior procurement roles within the WA Government with experience in strategic procurement and planning, service evaluation,business improvement, change management and customer management.
