Alison Barto, FCIPS
GBT Chair
Alison Barto first joined GBT in 2016 and is Chair of our Global Board of Trustees, as well as Chair of the CIPS Foundation Committee and CIPS Remuneration Committee. She has held a range of procurement roles.
Alison's most recent role was as HSBC’s Head of Government Schemes, where she coordinated the bank’s response to Covid-19 loans, working with UK businesses, HM Treasury, and the British Business Bank. Prior to that she was Chief Procurement Officer for HSBC and was responsible for managing $15bn of third party spend globally. Alison has a Bachelor of Engineering degree and is a Fellow of CIPS.

Adil Mohammad, FCIPS
GBT Trustee
In November 2020, Adil became the Supply Chain General Manager for Shell’s Gasto-Liquids business in Qatar. In this role, he pioneered the digital transformation of the supply chain for Shell’s $19 billion Pearl asset.
The pearl asset is the world’s largest gas-to-liquids facility.
Adil's focus was on developing the team’s digital skills, fostering a culture of digital innovation, introducing generative AI-powered procurement governance, and implementing the initial elements of a ‘digital twin’ for the complex supply chain.
Adil completed the MCIPS qualification early in his career and was awarded Fellowship in recognition of his work in promoting the profession and the Institute. He has been an active member of the CIPS Central London branch and was a founding member of the CIPS Qatar Branch. Recently, he has initiated a revamp of the Fellows network in Qatar.

Wael Safwat, FCIPS ExDip

Wael is a seasoned business executive with over 29 years of international experience. He currently serves as the Middle East Lead for Sustainable Procurement & Value Chain at Accenture.
Wael has held senior roles as Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific for Fortune 500 companies and prominent regional conglomerates. His expertise in procurement and supply chain management has led to award-winning transformation programs that have significantly advanced the capabilities of leading organisations.
In addition to his executive roles, Wael is an expert in sustainability and shared services. He has successfully developed and implemented global transformation roadmaps, operating models, digital solutions, and upskilling programs.
A veteran member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) for over 20 years, Wael currently chairs the CIPS MENA Fellows and is a member of the CIPS Global Membership Committee.
