The Membership Committee is a sub-committee of the Global Board of Trustees. The Committee supports the development of our membership representation, whilst encouraging innovative ways to improve how we capture and act upon our members voices.

Members of the committee reflect the diversity of the CIPS global membership and their contributions help to enhance the reputation, elevate the value of CIPS and engage the CIPS Global Community. They ensure strong links between members and the Institute’s leadership.

Every year hundreds of our members volunteer to support CIPS and the profession.They give their time and their knowledge; they advise and guide other members; they share their passion for procurement and supply. The role of the Membership Committee
- To support the development and enhancement of our membership representation, including a wide and diverse range of members.
- To encourage innovative ways to continually improve how we capture and act upon our member's voices.
- To maintain links with the Volunteer Engagement Group and act as ambassadors for us and the profession.
- To provide views to the board on risks relating to the products and service provided to members.
Application and appointment process
Composition
- The Membership Committee is agreed by the Global Board of Trustees.
- A member of the Global Board of Trustees acts as Chair and other trustees are assigned to ensure the Membership Committee has the right mix of skills, knowledge and diversity.
- The Membership Committee are representative of our members
- There are typically ten members of the Membership Committee, including up to eight independent members.
- Independent members of the Membership Committee may also be members of the Volunteer Engagement Group.
Appointment
- The Chair of the Membership Committee is appointed by the Chair of the Global Board of Trustees.
- Independent, non-Trustee members are appointed by the Nominations Committee from the global volunteer network.
- The usual term is three years, in line with the Global Board of Trustees.
- Members of the Membership Committee will not have conflicts of interest.
Operation of the Membership Committee
- The Committee meets quarterly, typically a month ahead of the Global Board of Trustees meetings.
- The Committee meets virtually without the need for in-person meetings or travel.
- The minimum attendence is 60% of Committee members.
- The Chair of the Committee updates the Global Board of Trustees on the views of members at every Board meeting.
The selection process
All volunteers are welcome to apply to fill vacancies on the CIPS Membership Committee when they arise - the term is usually 3 years. There is a selection process against a clearly specified role profile and vacancies will be advertised to all volunteers.
