What is in the Operations Manager job description?
As an operations manager, you’ll be an experienced leader who can manage and develop the day-to-day customer relationships with third party logistics providers. You’ll drive forward the relationships and processes to create a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
What will be your responsibilities?
An Operations Manager responsibilities broadly consist of the following things:
- You will manage and develop the day-to-day transactional customer relationships, internally and externally.
- You will be responsible and accountable for all re-work and invoice analysis and will be able to summarise and complete on actions.
- Driving and developing a strong performing customer operations team.
- You’ll have overall management of pre and post customer delivery KPI’s .
- You’ll be communicating with a large number of internal and external key stakeholders, across all levels, on a daily basis and will need to be able to quickly build strong relationships.
- You will be creating solutions, with the ability to understand complex supply chain issues and work to a swift resolution, benefiting all parties involved.

What qualifications do you need?
If you’re looking to move into an operations manager role, you’ll need the following qualifications and skills:
- Thorough understanding of IT products and service groups.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a customer operations role .
- You’ll also need previous experience of working with a 3rd party logistics provider.
- Act as an integral leader – by coaching, supporting, challenging and influencing. You will need proven line management experience .
- You will be a self-motivated, driven, organised and structured, focussed individual.
- You will have a strong ability to establish and maintain effective relationships at all levels within the business.
CIPS Qualifications
To start your journey to become an Operations Manager, the ideal starting point is the Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply. Once complete, move on to Level 5 and Level 6 qualifications that will take you all the way to MCIPS.
