How benchmarking process is benefitting Kent residents

Kent County Council wanted to unlock the potential of its procurement function in response to heightened challenges facing local government and to match the Council’s ambitions to deliver best value for Kent residents. The CIPS Procurement Excellence Programme not only enabled the Council to evaluate and elevate the function’s maturity. It also influenced the creation of a new ‘centre of excellence’ procurement function applying globally-recognised best practices from the start.

CIPS helps Academy Trust free up funds for frontline education services

Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust set out to transform its procurement function from a small, back-office operation to a high profile, value-adding contributor to its mission. CIPS Procurement Excellence Programme - regarded by the Trust as the equivalent of an Outstanding rating by Ofsted - was chosen to guide and fasttrack its development. In just six months, procurement improvements were enabling the release of funds for frontline spending to improve students’ learning outcomes.

Building in procurement excellence from day one

Nexus Multi Academy Trust had expanded rapidly in a sector facing serious resource challenges and inexperienced in procurement. The Trust turned to the CIPS Procurement Excellence Programme to guide the establishment of a brand new procurement function with excellence at its core. Within months, the team had saved £330,000 and been recognised as an enabler of the Trust’s ambitious growth plans and a beacon of best practice in the sector.

Bangladesh Government Central Procurement Technical Unit

The Government of Bangladesh together with the World Bank, have been driving a major public procurement reform project for many years. Port Phillip

The City of Port Phillip, a local government area, south of Melbourne’s central business district, has become the first Council in Australia to achieve the CIPS Procurement Excellence Standard award.

Managing a total spend of over A$200m, the City of Port Phillip is responsible for delivering services to a population of 110,000 residents, plus businesses and visitors. These vary from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, maintenance of sporting reserves and parks, rubbish collection and road maintenance.

Department of Health

The CIPS Corporate Award for NHS is a procurement and supply learning programme that has been designed to incorporate terminology, practices and unique challenges specific to the NHS.

The programme is delivered using different learning methods including practical assessed assignments, interactive workshops and live business projects to make learning relevant.

DVLA

DVLA employs approximately 6,500 the majority of whom are working on Driver and Vehicle Licensing and based on the main Swansea campus.

The role of Central Procurement Group [CPG] within the DVLA is to oversee the way in which it purchases goods and services, manages supplier performance and services and drive improvements in supplier quality, capability and innovation.

Government Commercial Function

CIPS Corporate Award is a complete applied learning programme in procurement and supply, which can lead to MCIPS – the internationally recognised gold standard of achievement for procurement professionals.

The programme promotes and develops high standards of professional skill, ability and integrity, and is adapted to incorporate terminology, practices and challenges specific to central government.
