David Taylor has been appointed acting commercial director at the Home Office, following the departure of John Fernau who left to set up his own business.

Taylor was previously deputy director at the government department. Prior to joining the Home Office he was European procurement director at Hertz, and has also held purchasing roles at Orange, Vodafone and Cable & Wireless.

Fernau has left the department to establish a commercial consultancy, Fernau Solutions, which aims to help SMEs win and retain contracts with the public sector.

He joined the Home Office in October 2012, having previously led the Olympic Delivery Authority to glory as the overall winner at the CIPS Supply Management Awards.
