Two new procurement social networks launched to support 'disconnected community'

Two new social networking websites dedicated to procurement professionals have been launched - both claiming to be unique.

CorporateBrainz describes itself as the “only online specialist community for procurement professionals from every industry sector”, while Procurious says it is the first to combine forums, networking and training.

Tania Seary, founding chairman of Procurious, said buyers were “still quite disconnected as a community”.

“Gone are the days of merely being a purchasing function,” she told SM. “Today, procurement professionals are multi-skilled, adept at sourcing, negotiations, supplier management and much more, yet external perceptions of transactional purchasing have been tough to shift.

“We chose to move now because we are looking to support the next generation of procurement professionals, empowering them to change the face of the profession from the inside out.

“We know that procurement professionals are more global and mobile than ever before but they’re still quite disconnected as a community. Given that the current generation of professionals are already frequent users of online communities like LinkedIn and Facebook, we launched Procurious as a hub to network, learn and develop their careers. They can feel supported as part of a larger network specifically tailored to their needs, wherever they are.”

Seary said sites such as LinkedIn were not specialist enough. “Existing online communities are just not hitting the mark – they’re too broad,” she said. “Procurious isn’t just a networking platform – it’s unique as it bridges the gap between networking, thought leadership and technical information. No other online platform does all three.”

CorporateBrainz includes a “project portal” where organisations can post their outsourced procurement requirements for a particular task and buyers can advertise their services.

The site also includes a procurement training programme and a forum where “procurement and supplier management professionals meet online to exchange ideas and views”.

The website says: “CorporateBrainz was set up by a group of procurement and supplier management professionals to create an inclusive community where questions can be asked and answers, best practices and new ideas can be shared.”
