Fighting from the Shadows - An Accident By Design

Fighting from the Shadows - An Accident By Design

Paul Spanner is a former Royal Marines Officer and Special Forces operator with 28 years’ service. Paul’s bright career was cut short one evening while enjoying one of his passions as a competitive cyclist. Involved in a near-fatal accident in West Sussex, having technically died twice by the side of the road, he made a remarkable physical recovery.

In the following years Paul has represented his country in two sporting disciplines, as well as completing an MSc and having been accepted as a Doctorate student at the University of Portsmouth. Paul also completed his EASA PPL for light aircraft last year.

Redefining what disabled can mean in today's society, Paul talks about physical disability, the unseen consequences of a hidden brain injury as well as the amazing opportunities presented to him post injury.

Paul invites you to ask him about his recovery as he describes a journey which takes you from operating in Libya and Afghanistan as a senior intelligence officer to competing on the world cup circuit as a para sportsman.

Be prepared to ask yourselves what do I know about those I work with and what can I do to make the team I work with better by unlocking hidden talent and latent ability.
