Hardly a week passes these days without a major climate-related announcement. From political leaders outlining their green credentials, through to major companies competing on the basis of their climate strategies, climate change is rarely out of the headlines. Yet, as climate change has risen as a topic of media interest, a host of associated terms – many of which remain poorly defined and widely misunderstood – have also gained prominence.

One such phrase is ‘the low carbon economy.’ RWE Npower’s Winter 2006 Business Energy Index explored this concept and concluded that there was a “lack of common understanding as to what the Low Carbon Economy is”.
