Balancing Commercial and Sustainability Issues

Being commercial and sustainable go hand in hand. To have a long-term sustainable successful business, CSR, responsible procurement, and environmental issues have to be considered.

Information about Balancing Commercial and Sustainability Issues

Do you know what is meant by “sustainability”? I was fairly surprised to learn from a procurement consultant some time ago that sustainability was primarily about having a business which could be sustained long-term. My initial thoughts were ‘but what about CSR and being ‘nice’ – isn’t that what it’s all about?’ Then I really thought about it and immersed myself in CSR and sustainability conferences, literature and seminars. Not to jump the gun and go straight to a conclusion, I realised that being commercial and sustainable go hand in hand. To have a long-term sustainable successful business, CSR, responsible procurement, and environmental issues have to be considered. When you get down to the nitty gritty, most of it is common sense.
