With less than 3 months to go to the ESOS deadline on 5th December, just 177 out of the roughly 10 000 eligible companies have submitted their ESOS compliance reports. With only around 800 registered lead assessors this implies a huge workload to get reports in on time.
With this in mind, noises from the Environment Agency (EA) suggest that the deadline for submitting ESOS reports is likely to be relaxed. We understand that penalties for missing the submission date are unlikely to be enforced on the condition that the participant has started the ESOS auditing process before the 5th December.
Enforcement is likely to be strict on participants who have done nothing however, so it is still very important to get the process under way as soon as possible.
