Supplier Diversity in Action at the NSW event
Thursday, May 26, 2016

Sixty NSW CIPS Australasia members and friends attended the Supplier Diversity in Action event on Thursday, which focused on opportunities to support social enterprises procurement initiatives.

The event was hosted by the social enterprise Beehive Industries, which provides services such as Prepaid SIM card kitting for Telstra and packaging of forensic testing kits on behalf of Racing NSW Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory. Beehive Industries uses the income from these contracts to fund a range of community building activities such as a Low Cost Meals for Seniors program, computer classes for long term unemployed people, and the opportunity to undertake meaningful work and social activities for isolated members of our community.

Guest speakers at the event included Michael Sumner from Telstra, Andrew Dean from the NSW Department of Industry, Helen Bednar from National Disability Services and Lorraine Longato from SAP Ariba. Michael, Andrew and Helen shared examples of successful and competitive procurement initiatives with social enterprises such as Beehive Industries and Australian Disability Enterprises while Lorraine discussed the importance of eradicating human slavery from supply chains. There were displays from other social enterprises such as Aussie Biscuits (House with No Steps), the Bread and Butter Project (Bourke Street Bakery) and Coffee with a Vision (Flagstaff Coffee Group).

Refreshments included canapes by MasterChef Australia contestant and Beehive Industries ambassador Kumar Pereira, a selection of fine wine from Elizabeth Bay Cellars, and beer, soft drinks and juice provided by Beehive Industries. The evening also included a tour of the Beehive Industries factory floor guided by Beehive Industries CEO Brendan Lonergan.

A big thank you to all sponsors: Beehive Industries, Elizabeth Bay Cellars, Flagstaff Coffee Group and SAP Ariba.

Don't forget to save the date of July 14th in your diaries for our next NSW CIPS Australasia event - the annual Robert Walters-hosted CIPS AUSTRALASIA Trivia Night.
