Vancouver-based circular economy company upcycles 300,000 discarded chopsticks per week

As the popularity of Asian food grows in the US, Canada and Europe, so does the demand for disposable chopsticks – and the provision of these essential utensils becomes an increasingly complicated feat of logistics.

The majority of wooden and bamboo chopsticks start life in a forest in China. After harvesting and shaping, the chopsticks are then transported over 7,000 miles [in the case of North America] only to be used for 20 minutes before being discarded.
