Getting stakeholder buy-in for new tech

7 September 2018

At an exclusive lunch in Bern, hosted by the British Ambassador to Switzerland and online B2B marketplace Maistro, business leaders discussed how to successfully implement cutting-edge technology

Yasin Cakmak, procurement manager at Philip Morris, has been using crowdsourcing tools to great success in his organisation: internal stakeholder satisfaction is close to 100%, he said.

How has he been able to achieve this? First was working out what really counted for his stakeholders. Selling tools meant focusing on an area that matters to everyone: time wasting. “You can say to stakeholders, you are wasting an enormous amount of time doing things that matter to you, but these activities can be handled a lot easier and a lot faster using innovative approaches. That’s how it starts,” he said.

Rather than focusing on cost-savings, the best results have been the agility such solutions bring, he added. “Your results are the best tools to advertise [new technology].”

Find your ambassadors and let them spread the word for new tools, he advised. “Every organisation has people who are open to innovation. So put together the idea and advertise it internally to as many people as possible. Then the people who are initially interested in it will pass it around the organisation.”
