Head of procurement, Bouygues Energies & Services (UK)
How did you get into procurement?
I started as a multilingual receptionist with Bouygues UK. My role extended well beyond my job description and I worked my way up to executive assistant. One day our head of procurement asked me to join his team and I decided to go for it.
What was your big career break?
While I was still learning the ropes, I was asked to set up a meeting with an underperforming supplier. I found myself – rather unexpectedly – chairing the meeting. I knew my subject and, as a result, one of the board directors at the meeting offered me a job kick-starting procurement within Bouygues E&S FM.
What does an average day look like for you?
A short commute into Central London gives me time to prepare for the day ahead. In the office, it might be a Skype call with colleagues in France, meetings with senior leadership, attending reviews with supply chain partners or chairing our team meeting.
The best part of my job is…
I love the interactions I have with a huge variety of stakeholders. Every day brings its own challenges and we have to show versatility to overcome them.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Learn to say no. As Steve Jobs said, it’s only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important.
Tell us something interesting about your work…
I am the chair of WeLink UK, Bouygues’ women’s network. Our goal is to encourage women in the industry and address issues related to diversity and inclusion. This year, I am also the chair of the CIPS Central London Branch.
The future of procurement is…
…seated at the top table. AI and digital transformations will look after admin and data analytics, enabling procurement to be more strategic.
How do you relax in your free time?
Working full time and having two young children means I don’t have much – but I enjoy going to Zumba.
Who is on your fantasy dinner party guest list?
Michelle Obama and Jacinda Ardern as they are both inspirational ladies, and Beyoncé and Stevie Wonder to keep us musically entertained.
