Consignia has chosen to use a single supplier for its £40 million annual IT hardware and new software budget after considering proposals from the two suppliers in its existing dual supply framework.

IT systems and services company Computacenter, which has been awarded the contract, will implement Directa, its e-procurement system. The new system will enable staff at Consignia, the renamed Post Office, to track deliveries in the supply chain.

"We reached a mutual understanding that it would be more effective to have only one supplier," said Jim Reed, director of IT procurement at Consignia.

It will continue to specify equipment and Computacenter will manage the supply chain, including competition between manufacturers. The unsuccessful bidder will run contracts on various projects until completion.
