Bureau Solutions is to launch what it claims will be Europe's biggest e-marketplace, selling everything from automotive parts to stationery. It aims to attract more than 90,000 buyers and sellers.
The direct mailing firm will target purchasing and sales directors listed in its database of 1.8 million companies in the UK. "A take-up rate of 5 per cent, or 90,000 firms, is conservative through telemarketing," said Jeremy Hayden, head of Bureau Solutions.
The e-marketplace will be free for buyers and suppliers. Bureau Solutions will take a percentage of each transaction. The company has asked CIPS to back the project.
Helen Mannion, CIPS's e-procurement practice development officer, said: "It's a good idea but such a big marketplace will need strict management and control if it is to gain buyer confidence."
