Business neglects R&D outsourcing possibilities

Outsourced corporate research and development services represent an untapped market for companies daunted by advances in technology, a management consultancy has claimed.

While technology was the main concern of the 52 companies surveyed by Buy Research, only a fifth said that they had considered, or were currently considering, outsourcing as a strategy to manage core and non-core research.

Peter Sammons, director of Buy Research, said that while outsourcing of services was not happening rapidly, it was becoming an increasing concern. "Companies are now starting to realise the potential of outsourcing," he said.
