Purchasing and supply management job vacancies are increasing at four times the average rate of growth of functions in the logistics sector, according to a survey by recruitment company BJD Group.

The study of senior managers at 65 companies found that the demand for purchasing or supply chain specialists with best-practice experience is consistent in all areas of procurement. Purchasing and supply chain directors received average pay rises of around 9 per cent in the past year against 6 per cent for other directors. Senior managers had rises of around 20 per cent against an average of 14 per cent.

BJD Group said the findings indicated a strong recognition for the role of the senior purchasing professional.
