Purchasers must "put the passion back into procurement" to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the economic downturn, Robin Cammish, chief executive of the QP Group consultancy, told the CIPS conference.
Procurement should be like having "good sex" where the energy enlivens the processes with your partners. Like any good relationship, procurement's must be based on trust.
"The biggest challenge is how to get people to trust us with their budgets and spending," he said.
Purchasers needed to show chief executives that they saw the bigger picture, added Cammish.
