Healthcare e-business solutions provider Medexonline has developed an e-procurement tool for medical purchasers.

ProcurementPro is a suite of e-procurement applications, comprising catalogues, reports and requisitions, that allows customised purchasing across a healthcare organisation's multiple locations. It devolves procurement to a low level, with users accessing only those parts of the catalogue they have authority in.

The system follows workflow by putting purchasing orders out to suppliers who accept or reject the order and accompanying deadlines. To ensure visibility, suppliers have to acknowledge that orders have been received.

The solution was developed in collaboration with NHS trusts and their suppliers. It has been trialled in parts of the east and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, which intends to roll it out after the pilot phase.

ProcurementPro is said to reduce requisition time, particularly for more complex supplies, from weeks to minutes. Medexonline will work with organisations to determine their specific purchasing needs, and to put their supplier catalogues online.

"The strength of ProcurementPro is that it is a bespoke application that we will build on an ongoing basis in accordance with demand," said Tash Whitmey, director of client services.

Medexonline has also revamped its healthcare industry portals, with separate sections for news, commerce, discussion and industry information.
