Chief executives who initiate e-business strategies must address the threats as well as the opportunities, according to new guidelines from BuyIT, the government-backed e-procurement best practice network.
The guidelines, Succeeding in the Networked Economy: the CEO's Framework for e-Business, address four important issues: e-business and corporate direction, relationships, communications and information, and processes and culture.
An e-business strategy must be reviewed more often than most other types of strategy, according to Fritz Janssen, BuyIT's chief executive.
He told SM: "These reviews must happen more often because changes in e-business processes are now happening much faster. These guidelines have simply summarised conventional wisdom."
The guidelines - which were developed by senior management from companies including Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Clifford Chance, e-Centre, IBM, Shell and Oracle - are available on the BuyIT website, located at
www.buyitnet.org.
