Half of UK firms are ordering supplies online, according to government-backed research.

The annual International Benchmarking Study, produced by the Department of Trade and Industry initiative UK Online for Business, says UK firms are becoming more sophisticated in their use of the Internet.

The number of businesses ordering online rose by more than half in the past year.

Almost one-fifth of firms pay online, and about two-thirds of those who buy goods on the Internet already, or plan to, integrate ordering services into their IT systems.
