The biggest challenge for purchasing and supply professionals in Africa is to make an impact on the business agenda, Alex Massie, vice-chairperson of the CIPS Botswana branch, told a recent meeting.

"We need to prove to our senior management that we have the skills, knowledge and experience by being innovative, using and implementing supply chain best practices," he said.

Massie, sourcing manager at Barclays Bank of Botswana, told members: "As professionals with the knowledge and experience, we are required to continuously search for breakthrough opportunities in improving our management of costs and elimination of waste."
