Tube operator London Underground named Robert Janowski as chief programmes officer, responsible for managing private finance initiatives and public-private partnership contracts.

Janowski, an American, moved from engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff, where he worked on Transport for London and London Underground projects.

At Parsons, he was director of programme assurance for public-private partnership contracts.

In Dallas, Texas, Janowski worked for the Department of Energy's superconducting supercollider research project, a 54-mile tunnel in which electrically charged protons are accelerated for collision experiments.

He managed the design of more than $300 million of underground construction to within 5 per cent of the owner's construction cost estimate.
