Ariba's latest application aims to make communication between buyers and suppliers easier and to include more people who were not previously involved in supply chain activities.

The vendor's Supplier Performance Management application contains an Intranet-style area on which buying organisations can ask their own employees to rate suppliers and suggest ways to improve their service.

Suppliers can also be allowed to log in to the area and rate the organisation as a customer.

The module is an addition to the recently overhauled Ariba Spend Management package. It comes with a library of key performance indicators, scorecards and survey templates with which buyers can link expectations of suppliers with quality of delivery while monitoring standards of service over the long term.

• John Watton, Ariba's UK marketing director, has left the company to join Microsoft's enterprise marketing group. A replacement is expected to be appointed in the coming weeks.
