The construction industry's main improvement and best-practice organisation is to develop guidelines on corporate social responsibility.

The Construction Industry Research and Information Association (Ciria) will identify issues, set targets and produce a toolkit of plans, goals and case studies to help clients and their supply chain partners identify areas for improvements.

A Ciria spokesperson said that clients, through their decisions on what is to be delivered, have the largest impact on social responsibility issues down the supply chain.

• Clothing retailer Littlewoods will no longer donate 1 per cent of profits to charity each year. The retailer also sent a letter to suppliers demanding a 2 per cent cut in prices.
