Performance improvement specialists Boxwood and e-procurement software vendor Ariba are the first two sponsors for the CIPS Supply Management Awards 2003.
The awards, which will be officially launched later this month, recognise and reward excellence in purchasing and supply management. They are being run jointly by CIPS and SM with the support of previous organiser Kelly's Directories.
"Being able to identify excellence in any profession is a good thing," said Ally Clarke, head of client development at Boxwood (formerly Cobalt). "Awards such as these prompt organisations to look at best practice and focus people on improvement."
The company, which employs 75 people, specialises in training purchasers to deliver savings in the retail sector.
Ariba, a sponsor in 2002, was one of the pioneers of electronic procurement systems and has since broadened its "spend management" solutions into areas such as e-sourcing and supplier relationships.
Its three-year sponsorship deal demonstrates the company's commitment to the profession, according to John Watton, its UK marketing director.
