Neill Carruthers has been appointed head of procurement at train operator South Central, part of the Go-Ahead Group.

He is responsible for developing procurement strategies to support South Central's franchise commitments to improving train services, such as punctuality and reliability, the introduction of new rolling stock and the refurbishment of maintenance depots.

He is also responsible for co-ordinating procurement across the Go-Ahead Rail division.

"I'll be ensuring that procurement plays its part in supporting the delivery of South Central's franchise commitments as well as making savings across the rail division," he said.

Carruthers will oversee the implementation of a new IT system and purchasing cards.

Neill joins South Central from track operator Network Rail, where he held a number of senior procurement positions.
