Nick Bennett, former procurement development director at drinks giant Diageo, has gone into the property development business as a personal project before returning to full-time work.
Bennett is in the process of buying a property in a fishing village near Cork, Ireland.
"It's been a personal ambition of mine for some time," he said. "I just hope my negotiating skills as a procurement director help me when dealing with the builders we'll be calling in."
Bennett was a member of the overall winning team at the 2002 Kelly's CIPS Awards for Excellence in Purchasing and Supply.
But he left Diageo when the company scaled back its procurement function in the summer.
Bennett was a driver behind Diageo's first leadership development programme for purchasers.
Diageo was again shortlisted in this year's CIPS Supply Management Awards in the "most innovative project" and "manufacturing and utilities" categories, but lost out to HBOS and BAE Systems respectively. For coverage of this year's CIPS Supply Management Awards and to view a complete list of winners, click here
