Colette Mason has been appointed procurement officer at Wrexham County Borough Council in north Wales.

Mason takes up the post following eight years as a purchasing officer at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, near Manchester.

Wrexham is seeking to take on board the recommendations of Better Value Wales, a review of public-sector procurement carried out by the National Assembly for Wales in 2001.

Mason will be involved in this work, as well as implementing the recommendations of Wrexham's own recent best-value review, which inspected a number of the council's service areas, including procurement.

Purchasing performance is reviewed annually, and this continual assessment will be a central part of Mason's responsibilities.
