Manchester-based management consultancy JMCL has appointed John Malone to focus on print procurement and document management.

Malone comes from HBOS where he was senior group procurement manager, and has a background in print, stationery, IT consumables, direct mail and paper purchasing.

When HBOS was created from the merger of Halifax and Bank of Scotland in 2001, he was responsible for rationalising supply chains, print management systems and e-procurement.

Malone, who has a degree in print technology and experience in local and central government, says he will be focusing on improving the service for JMCL's clients, in addition to making significant cost savings. He said savings opportunities are typically 10-30 per cent.

His clients range from government departments and financial services groups spending tens of millions of pounds on print to private equity to backed companies with print budgets as low as £500,000.

Part of Malone's work will be to develop a strategy to determine if a document needs to be printed or whether it could be e-mailed or sent via text message.
