RMC Group, one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials, has published a report outlining how it meets its health, safety, environmental and social responsibilities.

Ian Bolger, group procurement director, said its suppliers were expected to adhere to the same standards, as set out in its guide, Responsibility in Action.

"There is a requirement to validate the environmental and health and safety policies of the suppliers we deal with."

He added that RMC had recently de-listed a UK supplier on the basis of a single health and safety incident.

"No one was hurt, but we felt it displayed the wrong attitude," he told SM.

Bolger said that although RMC Group was not directly in the public eye - as it does not produce consumer goods - that did not mean it could afford to neglect corporate social responsibility issues, as these could still pose a threat to its reputation.
