Mick Linsell has been appointed head of corporate services, including purchasing, for the new independent inspectorate Commission for Healthcare Audit and Inspection (CHAI) when it starts work next month.
The CHAI will scrutinise the delivery and performance of healthcare services and will encompass some or all of the work of several agencies: the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI), the Mental Health Act Commission, the Audit Commission, and National Care Standards Commission.
Fiona Taylor, who was previously procurement manager at the CHI, will be the CHAI's purchasing manager and report directly to Linsell.
He told SM: "The CHAI will be the leading voice in auditing and inspecting standards of healthcare, but internally we will look to make savings in our own purchasing."
The CHAI will employ 600 people and Linsell will also be responsible for personnel, finance, information technology and accommodation.
Linsell moves from the Royal Mail where he was operations director, and over 13 years had responsibility at times for purchasing, HR and IT.
