Mark Davies has been appointed to lead the third-party outsourcing operation of food services company 3663.
Davies, who moves from Pret à Manger where he was head of purchasing and supply chain for two years, has been brought in as client purchasing controller to speed up growth at 3663's client purchasing department.
Davies will target hotels, restaurants and catering companies that are looking to outsource part or all of their food sourcing business to a third-party provider.
The department was set up 18 months ago by 3663, formerly known as Booker, to handle food purchasing for large organisations. It is looking to build on the seven national customers that it currently has.
It wants to build business in areas where, until now, it has had no involvement such as local authorities.
In the coming months, Davies will also increase the size of the department from four client purchasing managers to five.
"My priority is to get new clients on board and look at the future direction of the operation," said Davies.
"The fact that we are part of the largest food wholesaler in the country with a lot of expertise will help us to build more business in this expanding area of outsourcing."
Clients are able to outsource a range of activities, from the purchasing of specific foodstuffs to categories of food, such as frozen or fresh, to 3663.
The department is additionally able to oversee the introducing of a specific product.
"One of our most recent projects was developing a new range of cakes for a client," said Davies.
"We looked at how the cakes would be made, which company would supply the ingredients and at what cost, what the distribution would be, and then came up with a suggested cake range and its price."
Davies replaces Trevor Pearson, who is to become frozen food buying controller at 3663.
