Adrian Griffith has joined the Borough of Telford and Wrekin as procurement manager.

He was previously with procurement outsourcing company SureStock as purchasing manager on the Warrington Hospital NHS Trust contract (see News).

At Telford and Wrekin, Griffith will soon start a spend analysis to determine what is spent with whom.

"We have a procurement unit of only two people who are responsible for a budget of £90 million, and all purchasing is devolved," he said. "The biggest issue is to conform with the national procurement strategy for local government."

Griffiths said the priorities are to stop duplicate buying from different suppliers, to implement an e-procurement programme where little exists now, and to set savings targets.

"But this will also require a diplomacy to ensure success."
