Wakefield Borough Council has appointed four people to head its new procurement department.

Phil McConnell has joined as corporate procurement manager. Also appointed as procurement officers are Becky Hanson and Rob Allan. The department will provide advice on best practice for the council's staff who buy goods and services.

McConnell comes from a purchasing position at the British Library in Wetherby where he focused on the IT and facilities.

Besides providing policy and strategy advice to purchasers, he will also work on contracts under the private finance initiative.

Hanson moves to Wakefield after similar roles at Vodafone UK and Bombardier Transportation, while Allan has worked with the Department for the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs and East Riding Council.
