Samantha Warnock has been appointed senior procurement manager at Budget Insurance in a shake-up of the rapidly expanding group's buying practices.
The newly created post is in the business services department and has an annual budget of around £5 million, reporting to the director of business services.
She is spearheading a drive to rationalise the group's buying practices and is responsible for all indirect procurement. Warnock will aggregate demand for goods from office supplies and mailing to buildings and health and safety.
"The budget has grown very fast," said Warnock, "and even though we have had procurement in different sections, it has never gone across the board until now."
Part of the work is to introduce best practice in purchasing and slash the number of suppliers, targeting a 10 per cent cost saving. More than 400 of Budget suppliers are under her responsibility. Warnock aims to cut that list by at least 25 per cent to about 300 and draw up a list of preferred suppliers. She is also working on procurement for a new print facility and call centre.
Warnock has six years' experience in developing procurement initiatives prior to joining Budget. She has also worked for Siemens, Fibrenet and Internet Network Services.
