Marketers should work with colleagues in procurement to secure better results, delegates will hear at a symposium this month.
Addressing the Marketing and Purchasing Conference in London on 22 September, Chris Macleod, former Marketing Society chairman, will highlight the value that purchasing can add to marketing.
Macleod, an independent marketing consultant, told SM marketers could benefit from buyers' negotiating, contract and supply-management skills, as well as their ability to achieve economies of scale and verify whether a supplier runs a good business.
"Procurement also has systems and techniques for tendering and evaluation and project-management tools that marketing may not be aware of," Macleod added.
A manifesto issued by the Marketing Society includes greater collaboration with purchasing.
