Group purchasing director leaves Carphone Warehouse

The Carphone Warehouse's group purchasing director, Matthew Smith, is to stand down after nine years with the company.

Graham Stapleton, the company's managing director for accessories, will take over the role. He joined the company 18 months ago.

Smith, who is responsible for the company's direct sourcing, joined in March 1998 as head of purchasing and became group purchasing director in 2001. He manages all supplier relations, product selection, purchasing and stock control for the UK operation.

Prior to joining The Carphone Warehouse he worked for Vodafone Connect as purchasing manager for two years. Before that he was the purchasing manager at People's Phone for two years.

Smith is set to return to his home country Australia before deciding on his next role.
