A Ministry of Defence employee at the Defence Logistics Organisation has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment on nine counts of corruption.

MoD Police Fraud Squad officers arrested Michael Douglas Hale, a project manager in charge of contracts, on Tuesday 21 March on suspicion of corruption. He was suspended from work while the investigation was ongoing.

The MoD praised the police forces in Europe and assistance from the FBI and IRS in the United States

An MoD statement said: "We are pleased with the outcome of this case and hope that the sentence will act as a warning to anyone similarly tempted to defraud the MOD that they will be punished.

"We will now be seeking to recover the money through the courts under the Proceeds of Crime Act."
