Telecoms firm Motorola has turned to its supply chain to improve the performance of its mobile phone business.
The company has appointed Stu Reed, the executive vice-president of its integrated supply chain, to take over as president of its mobile devices business. Reed will continue to report to Greg Brown, president and chief operating officer.
Last week Motorola estimated it did not expect its mobile phone division to make a profit in 2007. Brown, commenting on Reed's appointment, said: "We are confident that under Stu's leadership we can restore the profitability and performance of this important business."
Reed has been in charge of Motorola's integrated supply chain since 2005, with responsibility for procurement, manufacturing and new product introduction.
Rita Lane, corporate vice-president and chief procurement officer at Motorola, will take over from Reed as the head of the supply chain.
