Airbus has signed a commitment charter with its suppliers, pledging stronger links with its supply base and increased long-term cooperation.
The aeroplane manufacturer says suppliers will be increasingly integrated in the aircraft development process, from design to after-life recycling.
Its commitment includes more visibility of Airbus production plans, developments and business projections, with the suppliers sharing the related costs. Airbus will also encourage the growth of smaller companies in an attempt to transform them into Tier 1 suppliers.
Louis Gallois, Airbus president and CEO, said in a statement the company and its suppliers were partners, who depended on each other for their future and required reorganisation. He added: "This commitment charter is putting on paper the measures that Airbus will put in place to accompany the whole supply base, whatever their origin. This will make us all stronger and better prepared for the next decades to ensure good business prospects."
