An enhanced web tool to help organisations gauge the sustainability of their supply chains is now online
The Assurance Tool, from not-for-profit organisation Action Sustainability (AS), asks users a series of questions, divided into sections entitled people; policy, strategy and communication; process; engaging suppliers; and measurements and results.
Once the questions are completed, the user is presented with a series of graphs that pinpoint areas for improvement.
The questions address areas such as the procurement training for staff, the dissemination of sustainability policy throughout the organisation and the commitment to sustainability from a senior level.
The tool runs alongside a basic version that AS has trialled on its website for the past nine months and which has so far been used by 170 organisations.
AS is working on a supplementary Benchmark Tool, which compares answers to a set of standards on the system. A report is automatically generated with anonymous comparison to peer organisations. This tool is expected to be ready later this year.
